On New Year's, the Gurdwara Sahib was packed this year, so much so that there wasn't
even enough room in the main hall! I was really blessed to have spent 6 hours
with my family singing kirtan at the Gurdwara, and to get to sing shabads on
the stage. We all came home and agreed it was the best New Year's eve we had
ever spent, because the entire sangat did simran and Anand Sahib together.
I had a friend recently who said that New
Years is just another day. I get the point that they were trying to make. I
understand that if you want to reflect and make changes in your life, you don’t
need a New Year, you can do it anytime. It’s nice to have realistic expectations and you
shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself. Yet EACH day is an opportunity for growth and change. At the same time, even if
it is another day, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it was an
extraordinary experience sitting in sangat that day. It is a very special experience when we come together to remember God, on whatever day or occasion. That is time that you spent towards the purpose of your life, away from maya.
I think that we also should be coming together in that same way for events like this weekend’s celebration of the Prakash Divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji! The more people that come, the more joyous it is. We are truly blessed when we come together to sit in sangat.
