Worldwide celebrations are happening for Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th Parkash Divas. I’ve seen excellent news about initiatives started in the name of Guru Ji, like tree-planting. This is a time of huge celebration for the Sikh community. Locally, we will be having evening programs through this next week. Rough time estimates are Sukhmani Sahib each evening starting Monday Nov 11 at 530 pm, then kirtan at 630 pm (same everyday all week) finishing through to Sunday the 17th with a morning program. It is an important time to take away from your busy lives and schedules to sit in sangat and with your family sangat!

I am happy to see Sikh celebrating the 550th Birthday of Baba Nanak ji. BUT I don't think MOST of us understand what he and other Gurus and Saints were saying. If our Ancestors had We would be living in Punjab right now - Punjab would have been like a Powerful Western Country at par or BETTER than the US or even Canada, Western Europe. I think the British or their ancestors - Canada, the US, Australia - their Constitutions were very Best examples of Some of what Guru ji was trying to say about Human Equality. People here are MORE giving, caring, and Obey the rule of law. What I can't get over is WHY Sikhs have to ask for VISA from Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India to visit their HOME When before the BRITISH arrived SIKH use to CONTROL BOTH the Indian Capital AND the Pakistani Capital. WHY Sikhs were SLEEPING through the Partition time? Where were our Leaders our People? During Ranjit Singh's time SIKH fought amongst themselves - Greed, Sex, EGO took over - the INSIDE Dark side emerged - the ONLY symbol of Sikhi left was the OUTSIDE - Turban and 5ks - Just like today.
ReplyDelete" Until the Partition of Punjab in 1947, the Punjab Province encompassed the present-day Indian states and union territories of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Delhi; and the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Islamabad Capital Territory. It bordered the Balochistan and Pashtunistan regions to the west, Kashmir to the north, the Hindi Belt to the east, and Rajasthan and Sindh to the south.

Since the US is a beacon of HOPE for Democracy and Safety of those who love democracy - it is important to keep an eye on what's happening there. A Democrat, a Liberal is good for Sikhs and other minorities around the World. Since Trump is an Alt-right guy, there are people in the US govt who are putting their lives on line to protect democracy(and US Sikhs)

Shock, anger and sadness are giving way to pride among career diplomats that they are defending American ideals and holding the Trump administration accountable.

People who understood Guru Nanak's message of Courage and Valor: This is the comment I loved from that New York Times story
ReplyDeleteThese are times that try men's souls."
As a retired State Department civil servant I am filled with immense joy and pride at the outstanding and inspiring patriotism and courage of my former colleagues who have come forward at this moment in our nation's struggle. All of us in the federal service take an oath to "...protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic." The officers who have come forward in heroic defiance of Mr. Trump's attempts to stop them have shown that they hold the sacred trust embodied in that oath in the very depth of their souls. Mr Trump attempted to sell our country's honor to a nation struggling to maintain it's integrity and independence. Our diplomats, joined by a soldier and an intelligence officer and a senior staff member of the NSC came forward to expose that attempted crime. History will hold them as true patriots. They have earned our nation's deepest gratitude and love.
So it is not unthinkable to think Sikhs working in Farming, Defense, trade, and medicine..Politicians too - Comes from Guru Nanak Dev ji's time
