Trauma Sensitive Yoga

One of the other resources I wanted to spread the word about today was Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). This style of yoga is particular to a trauma-informed approach (also validated for treating PTSD) and was designed by David Emerson at the Trauma Center. Unfortunately, the Trauma Center itself was closed so it is now run out of the Justice Research Institute in Boston (USA). We now know body based approaches have a significant role in trauma treatment like I discussed in previous posts. This style of yoga is different from regular yoga, it still has poses but it is more about empowering people to make choices themselves about what feels right for them today, and how to reconnect and feel parts of their body. For more information about TCTSY https://www.traumasensitiveyoga.com/about They give many possible options of choices, and the language used is much different during the sessions. Even for those who have previously disliked yoga they may find some benefit in this style. To sign up for classes and get registered it’s just a 10 minute intake on the phone and they ask that you make a donation of $12 US/15 CAD for each class, but they are flexible depending on what people can afford, they don't want that to be a limiting factor. The classes are run via zoom and with participant cameras off. Here’s the link for registration, note the class times are all EST (since it’s in Boston) so it’s a three hour time difference, and it is available to us in Canada as well: https://jri.org/get-involved/tctsy-classes It is open to people of all genders.  I think this is a fantastic initiative and the more we spread the word the more people will benefit from these resources.
